What are CFD’s?

Are simply agreements to exchange the difference in value of a particular financial instrument between the time when the contract is opened and the time when the contract is closed. You can trade if you believe the price of a financial instrument is likely to go up in value (strengthen) and if you think it is likely to go down (weaken). Your profit or loss is determined by the difference you buy at and the price at which you sell. The concept of a CFD is that it mirrors the underlying asset in terms of price movement but does not hold the liability of delivery of the contract. The flexibility of trading CFDs means when you enter into a buy or sell contract, all you are concerned with is the price movement and size of your trade. The ability to trade only price movement removes the stress of taking physical delivery of a product which can happen if you buy and sell exchange traded futures contracts.

Share CFDs are contracts that mirror the performance of the underlying market security with the profit or loss calculated as the difference between the purchase price and the selling price.

Official Expiry

Copper: trading terminates on the third last business day of the delivery month;
Sugar No 11: trading terminates on the month proceeding the delivery month (except January, which is the second business day before the 24th calendar day of the prior month);
Corn: trading terminates on the business day prior to the 15th calendar day of the contract month;
Soybean: trading terminates on the business day prior to the 15th calendar day of the contract month.

Official Expiry

Light Sweet Crude (WTI): trading in the current delivery month shall cease on the third business day prior to the twenty-fifth calendar day of the month proceeding the delivery month. If the twenty-fifth calendar day of the month is a non-business day, trading shall cease on the third business day prior to the last business day proceeding the twenty-fifth calendar day. In the event that the official Exchange holiday schedule changes subsequent to the listing of Crude Oil futures, the originally listed expiration date shall remain in effect. In the event that the originally listed expiration day is declared a holiday, expiration will move to the business day immediately prior;
Brent Crude Oil: trading terminates on the either the 15th day before the first day of the contract month, if such 15th day is a Business Day (ii) If such 15th day is not a Business Day the next preceding Business Day;
Gas Oil: trading shall cease at 12:00 hours, 2 business days prior to the 14th calendar day of the delivery;
Carbon Emissions (EUA): Last Monday of the contract month. However, if the last Monday is a Non-Business Day or there is a Non-Business Day in the 4 days following the last Monday, the last day of trading will be the penultimate Monday of the delivery month.

All Index CFD’s officially expire on the third Friday of the delivery month. If the third Friday is not a business day, then the contract will expire on the preceding business day.
